Primary Room DWelcome to the 2009-2010 school year at The Laureate School!My name is Leslie Wild. I have taught at The Laureate School since last November when I relocated from Placerville, via Danville, where I taught the Montessori philosophy both in a school environment and in my Montessori Home Day Care for 17 years. I began my career teaching Montessori preschool children in Irvine, 30 years ago. I look forward to the new school year, along with Janis Hatak, who has been assisting in Room D for 6 years. You are invited to the CLASS VISITATION AND PARENT ORIENTATION DAY on Monday, August 31 from 10:00-12:00. This is a time for your child to see his/her classroom and so we can all meet one another, as well as, for you to go to a parent orientation meeting with our administration. This is a busy time, so if you have any specific concerns please call during school hours and leave a message. We can then arrange a time to talk. The first day of school is TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1. Our program begins at 8:45 and ends at noon. The following guidelines will help your child to have a successful and enjoyable school experience: BE ON TIME: Both when you drop off and when you pick up your child. Being on time, allows your child to be a part of our daily routines, such as announcements, calendar and group lessons. This helps your child know what to expect during the day and feel like s/he belongs. Arriving on time for pick up helps him/her feel safe. Please call if you will be late arriving or picking up so we can ensure your child feels welcome and cared for. CUBBIES: Each child will be given a cubby that includes a small space about the size of a lunch box, and an area with a hook for a jacket , etc. Please leave backpacks and large bags at home so that we may keep this area, easy to get to and tidy. DRESSING: It is helpful for you and your child to choose clothing for school that can get dirty and that they can get in and out of by him/herself. Shoes should be for running, climbing and sitting cross-legged on the floor. CHANGE OF CLOTHES: Please send a change of clothes, including underwear, socks, shirt, and bottoms appropriate for the weather, in a plastic bin, shoe box sized. PHOTOS: Please send 2 photos of your child that will be used for their name card and cubby. SHARING: Our sharing days will be on Thursday and Friday. Your child may bring something that is educational (ie. Objects from trips, photos, books, something to do with our unit of study, etc.). Please LEAVE TOYS AT HOME, they cause disruption, get broken or lost. FOOD: Your child will be provided with healthy snacks to prepare during worktime. BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT IS ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9 FROM 5:00-7:00 PM. There will be more detailed information regarding your child's class, as well as, sign up sheets for room parent(s), bringing in a healthy snack, activities, etc. COMMUNICATION: Although The Laureate School provides a place for communication via e-mail, I prefer to speak with you either in person, or phone (call the school during school hours). You can also send me notes. I will check my e-mail a couple of times a week but if you want a timely response please call. I will still use the website to inform you of what we are studying or upcoming activities, as well as, send notes home if need be. Thanks for your understanding.
