Gifted ProgramsThere are several statewide and national programs available to gifted students. All students' annual ERB testing scores are reviewed for participation in two of these programs. To qualify, students must test at or above the 97th percentile in several limited categories, usually involving critical thinking. The Laureate program's emphasis on critical thinking and allowing for individual advancement within the classroom setting typically results in a high percentage of students - one quarter to one third - scoring at or above the 97th percentile in one or more inclusive testing category. JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY, Center for Talented Youth Johns Hopkins University, Center for Talented Youth runs a talent search that is open to students from second grade and up who have scored in the 97th, 98th, or 99th percentile in specific mathematics (M), verbal (V), and composite (C) score categories of their most recent or next-most-recent standardized aptitude or achievement tests. Scores are normed on a national U.S. population and reported in terms of percentile ranks. The Laureate tracks students eligible for this program.
UCI ACADEMIC TALENT SEARCH The Academic Talent Search (ATS) is a two-fold testing program designed primarily for students in grades six through ten. It identifies students with extraordinary mathematical and/or verbal reasoning abilities, assists participants in their placement in pre-college programs, and offers information and materials that will aid parents and educators of high-ability students.
