Laureate Strategic Planning Committees
In the Spring of 2007, strategic planning
committees were formed to work towards accomplishing current and future goals
in key areas to improve our already wonderful school. All parents, faculty, staff,
and students are invited to join these ongoing committees.
Arts and Culture – The mission of the Arts and Culture
Committee is to provide The Laureate School with increased art and
multicultural programming through school assemblies, guest speakers,
cultural festivities, field trips, and family events. Activities and family events are prescheduled for the school year (consult the school calendar), and additionally as opportunities arise. The more people we have involved in
these events, the more successful they will be! For
information, please contact Susan Townsend at
stownsend@laureateschool.org.
Character – The Character Committee was formed to
address the desire for a comprehensive life values and skills program
based on the mission and philosophy of the school. The Character Education Program is the foundation of the committee with a monthly schoolwide focus on a character trait that corresponds to The Three Pillars of: Citizenship, Leadership, and Stewardship. Student-organized community service projects provide opportunities for our Laureate family to “give
back” to the local and world communities. As part of the Leadership component, middle school students now run this committee under the guidance of middle teacher, Holly Harmon. If you would like to learn more, please contact Miss Harmon at hharmon@laureateschool.org.
Garden – The mission of the Garden Committee is to
support the creation and maintenance of a school-wide garden program. Goals
include the development of class gardens, integration of the garden
with school curriculum through a Life Lab program, vermicomposting (using worms for breaking down
organic waste), a school orchard, and a Community Supported Agriculture
(CSA) program. In its third year of the Garden Project, the school hired a Life Lab teacher, Heather Noyes, who has expanded the program with class-linked curricula, plant sales, and community workshops. Miss Noyes welcomes parent involvement! For more
information please contact Heather Noyes at hnoyes@laureateschool.org.
Health and Nutrition – This committee is dedicated to
ensuring that the health and nutrition needs of our students are met
through school policies, nutrition, physical education, athletic
activities for students and families, and a healthy snack and lunch
program. To accomplish these goals, this committee oversees the school
lunch program (including choosing the food that is served each month),
develops education programs and family events for students and parents,
and updates the school nutrition policy each year. For information,
please contact Cindy Richmond at crichmond@laureateschool.org.
Campus Security – The purpose of the Campus
Security Committee is to ensure that school safety and security
policies and practices are responsive to the changing needs of the
school community within the school setting. Parents worked together with Roz Reymers over the course of a year to determine needs, implement changes, and formulate a strategic plan for future changes. If you would like to become involved in campus security issues and planning, contact Roz Reymers at rreymers@laureateschool.org.
