The Laureate School Newsletter
From the Principal

Dear Parents:

The School Photos sessions for both individual and class photos went well. I’ll let you know when your child’s photos can be viewed at the photographer’s website. At that time a hard copy of the order form will be sent to you.

We now have many more families enrolled in Smart Tuition. For those parents who were unable to enroll, in order to help you avoid any late payment fees, I will be personally enrolling you so that you can receive a Smart Tuition invoice, if not by the invoice date of October 10, that at least well before the payment due date of October 31.

I want to welcome Clara Peterson to our Toddlers Program. And I want to welcome back to The Laureate School two preschool students, Mason Kaufman and Finn David.

Due to our having a more limited staff this year, it was decided to simplify the Fall Festival. The theme will be, “Pumpkin Picnic.” It will be held on the preschool playground on Friday, October 24 rather than Saturday, October 25. The children will eat their lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m. and then the fun activities will begin – a small bounce house, face painting, karaoke, a photo op with a fall background and hats, a fish pond and more. This will be followed by eating some pumpkin treats picnic style. The get-together will end at 1:00 p.m. We will need parent volunteers for some things. Details will be forthcoming as we approach the date. The purpose of the event is simply to bring together all of our students and as many parents that can join us in one place to have some fun and celebrate the beginning of fall as the Laureate family.

Regarding the Pillars of Character Counts, at the beginning of October we shifted from focusing on “responsibility” to emphasizing “trustworthiness.” A simple, two-page set of good tips for parents can be viewed via this link: http://charactercounts.org/pdf/Parents-TipSheet.pdf. It includes a review of the Six Pillars and the four parenting/teaching methodologies: teach, enforce, advocate, and model (TEAM). Although character formation and improvement is a life-long endeavor, one of my psychology professors estimated that about 80% of a child’s character is already formed by the age of four. Hence, the early years are of utmost importance.

Sincerely,
Wm. Keith Bookwalter, Ph.D. (Mr. B.)
