Elementary Program Overview
Our teachers are committed to meeting every student's unique learning needs. We recognize that motivated and successful learning occurs most effectively when students encounter a wide variety of materials and opportunities that engage them at their own learning level. Teachers plan lessons mindful that students must meet the essential 21st century learning skills of critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaboration.

Laureate students are expected to become successful collaborators by demonstrating that they listen to the ideas of others, contribute ideas of their own and prepare for discussion. As students mature they are expected to learn and retain a broad and diverse range of knowledge, one developed through reasoning and expanded through ongoing learning. This is demonstrated as they engage in learning activities, share knowledge with others, question what they do not understand, assess their knowledge formally and informally, attain the confidence to engage in challenging coursework, and read and write independently.

During their time at The Laureate School, students learn the methodologies and skills to effectively research and evaluate information relevant to inquiry. This is demonstrated when they identify appropriate and pertinent sources, evaluate material for relevance and importance, select and organize material, write with clarity, and present ideas.
Educating the Whole Child

Our students are college bound; exceptional performance in reading, writing, math, and other core subjects is expected. Nevertheless, we recognize that all students have needs beyond academic success. At The Laureate School class sizes are small enough that teachers have time to support each child as an individual to see that they remain healthy and engaged, and feel safe in a rigorous academic environment.

We believe that students need art, physical education, music, foreign languages and time outdoors in our wonderful garden to develop as well-rounded individuals. Laureate School students study physical education twice weekly, take music and art classes one or two periods every week, have one period of gardening and Life Lab and, depending on grade level, take up to four periods of Spanish and/or Mandarin. The mix is both challenging and fun.
